"Reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge, it is thinking that makes what we read ours." -John Locke

I think that my quote describes something that I believe because real thoughts that apply to you shouldn't be fromulated by someone else. Information could be picked up from anywhere, if someone was to tell me that the sky was blue, of course I could just take their word for it, but I have to be able to verify it by going outside. When reading non-fictional books, I often recieve a lot of knowlage, but to really understand it, I need to think about what the fact would imply.

You speak about non-fiction books making you attain knowledge. What might the purpose be of fiction books?
ReplyDeleteGo back and edit your post to include the following: add the quote you selected, make spelling corrections, change the point of view to first person throughout.
Our entire lives we aren't presented with ways to think, and opinions to have everywhere we turn, but by reading we can experience what it is like to live from someone else's eyes, and make judgments that are less biased.
ReplyDeleteInteresting quote, obviously you would've pick one like this. I think you should've included something about fiction books (yes, yes, I know you love your nonfiction), perhaps explaining what lessons we can learn from them.
ReplyDeleteThere were a couple spelling errors, but for the most part this post was grammatically correct. Great start.

I applaud you for reading non-fiction novels.
ReplyDeleteThe look of your blog is perfect for you, in my opinion. And your quote is the same way. We can't be told how to imagine a novel in our minds. We have to imagine in ourselves. Cool looking blog and nice way to start it off!
